My first quarter at Stanford, I took the well-loved graduate mechatronics called ME 218A: Smart Product Design Fundamentals. It is the first class of a series and teaches the basics of electromechanical systems, such as circuit design, programming ICs, state machines, etc. For the final project of our class, our team designed and built a "smart composter" that would respond to a series of button and sensor commands and "processed" compostable materials as directed. All mechanical, electrical, and software components were designed from scratch (no high level micro controllers were used). See the video below to check out our composter in motion!
